Not sure who is right?
That is exactly what we help with.
You do not need to choose a tutor alone. Tell us the student’s instrument, age, level, goals and availability, and we will recommend the most suitable available route.
How we choose tutors
Selected for teaching judgement, not just musical ability
Every GSofM tutor is considered for how they teach, communicate and support students — not only for their musical background.
Tutors need strong subject knowledge, performance understanding and the ability to explain technique clearly.
We value tutors who can adapt their language, pace and feedback for children, teenagers, adults and different confidence levels.
Lessons sit within a managed timetable, clear communication routes and the school’s 10-lesson block structure.
Tutors work within PVG expectations, professional conduct standards and a structured school environment.
Parent confidence
Trusted by students and families across Glasgow
Families often choose GSofM because they want more than a weekly slot. They want patient tutors, clear teaching, a friendly learning environment and a school structure that supports progress.

GSofM tutor matching
The GSofM Tutor Matching Standard
The right tutor is not only about instrument choice. We consider the student, the teaching style and the practical timetable before recommending a starting route.
Musical fit, teaching fit and practical fit — considered together.
We consider the student’s age, level, goals, personality, instrument and availability before recommending a tutor. The aim is a strong first match, not simply the first available space.
We understand the student
We review age, level, goals, confidence, preferred times and any learning considerations before recommending a route.
We consider tutor fit
We look at teaching style, subject specialism, age suitability, personality and availability.
We begin with a trial lesson
The trial gives the student, family and tutor a practical first session to assess comfort and direction.
We support the journey
Lessons are supported by safeguarding, admin communication, lesson blocks and ongoing school oversight.
Tutor requests and availability
You can request a specific tutor where appropriate, but placement depends on the student’s instrument, level, preferred lesson time and each tutor’s current timetable.
