Sarah Power — Singing Tutor
Sarah Power is a professional soprano and singing tutor at The Glasgow School of Music, supporting vocal technique, confidence, interpretation and performance through structured one-to-one tuition.
About Sarah
Advanced vocal training shaped by professional performance.
Sarah brings substantial opera, concert and recital experience into a student-centred teaching environment.
Dublin-born soprano Sarah Power completed degree and master’s-level music study at the DIT Conservatory, now TU Dublin Conservatoire. Her advanced performance training also includes the Royal Northern College of Music, the Guildhall Opera Course and the National Opera Studio in London.
Sarah moved to Glasgow to work with Scottish Opera as a John Mather Emerging Artist. Her professional work has included Scottish Opera, Irish National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Wexford Festival Opera and Buxton International Festival, alongside concert and recital appearances in the UK, Ireland, Austria and the United States.
At GSofM, this experience supports careful, practical tuition in vocal production, breath, tone, text, phrasing, interpretation and confident communication. Sarah works with children, teenagers and adults where one-to-one singing tuition is developmentally and vocally appropriate.
Alongside teaching, Sarah supports the school administratively, giving students and families a clear point of continuity between the musical and operational sides of GSofM.

Teaching approach
Technique should serve musical communication.
Sarah helps students understand how breath, physical coordination, tone, diction and phrasing contribute to a reliable and expressive voice. Technical guidance is connected to suitable repertoire so learners can hear and feel why an adjustment matters.
Confidence is developed through preparation rather than pressure. Students are supported to understand the music, communicate the text and build performance security gradually within a focused one-to-one setting.

Singing lessons with Sarah.
Final placement depends on vocal suitability, learning needs, goals and the most appropriate available weekly route.
Can I request lessons specifically with Sarah?
Yes. You can state a preference when requesting a trial. GSofM will consider the student’s age, voice, current level, aims, learning needs and suitable weekly availability before confirming a tutor.
Does Sarah teach complete beginners?
Yes. Sarah can support suitable beginners with breath coordination, vocal confidence, healthy foundations, listening and early repertoire. A paid trial helps the school review the most appropriate starting route.
Can Sarah support musical theatre or classical singing?
Yes. Sarah’s professional classical background and teaching experience can support classical voice, musical theatre repertoire, interpretation, diction and performance communication where appropriate for the student.
Are lessons suitable for nervous singers?
Yes. One-to-one tuition can provide a private, structured setting in which confidence develops gradually through clear preparation, suitable repertoire and achievable musical goals.
Does Sarah teach adults?
Yes. Adult beginners, returning singers and developing performers can request tuition in technique, repertoire, interpretation and personal performance goals.
Can lessons support auditions, examinations or performances?
Where suitable, lessons can support repertoire selection, vocal preparation, interpretation and performance confidence. Examinations are optional and depend on the learner’s aims and readiness.
What age should a child begin one-to-one singing lessons?
There is no single correct age. Vocal readiness, maturity, concentration, communication and the reason for starting all matter. GSofM reviews these factors through the trial process before recommending ongoing tuition.
How do I start singing lessons?
Request a paid trial through the Trial Music Lessons page. The school will review the learner’s details and respond within two working days about the most suitable available next step.
