A trial is a genuine first lesson and an opportunity to understand what the student needs. From there, we recommend the most suitable next step.

Typical route into lessons

  2. 02After reviewing the learner and your availability, we will confirm the most suitable available trial option.
  3. 03The learner begins with a paid one-to-one trial at the applicable published standard rate.
  4. 04After the lesson, we explain the recommendation and discuss the most appropriate next step.
Before requesting a trial

Trial lessons are charged at the applicable standard lesson rate. Any ongoing weekly arrangement is agreed after the trial. Full payment, attendance and cancellation information is available in Before You Begin and the Terms & Conditions.

What music lessons are available at GSofM?

GSofM offers piano, singing, guitar, drums, violin, cello, flute, saxophone, music theory, composition and online music lessons.

How should I choose the right lesson route?

Start with the subject if it is already clear. Where the choice is uncertain, use Find Your Lesson Route. Tell us about the learner, their goals and availability, and GSofM will recommend a suitable starting point.

Where do in-person music lessons take place?

In-person tuition takes place at The Glasgow School of Music’s teaching base in Kinning Park. Regional pages are travel and access guides to this location, not separate branches.

How much do music lessons cost?

Lessons use the applicable published standard rate for the selected 30, 45 or 60-minute length. Current prices appear in the fee panel and on Lesson Lengths & Fees. Trial lessons use the applicable standard rate.

How do I request a trial lesson?

Use the Trial Music Lessons page to tell us about the learner, their goals and availability. GSofM will then guide you through the next step.

What happens after the trial?

After the lesson, GSofM explains the recommended next step and helps you understand the most suitable route for continued learning.

How are ongoing lessons organised?

Confirmed ongoing tuition normally uses a fixed weekly lesson time and follows the published GSofM Teaching Block calendar.

Are graded exams required?

No. Exams are available where useful, but students can also progress through repertoire, technique, confidence, creativity, performance skills and long-term musicianship.
