A genuine first lesson
Start with teaching, not a sales consultation.
The trial combines real teaching with a chance to understand the student’s level and goals, and consider a suitable tutor, lesson length and next step.
Complete beginners can start from first principles. Returning or developing learners can bring existing experience, repertoire or goals. Nobody needs to arrive ready to perform.
No registration fee. The trial itself is paid at the published standard one-to-one lesson rate.

We consider suitable tutors, lesson lengths and timetable options, aiming to review new requests within two working days.
The trial is arranged
Where a suitable option is available, the tutor, time, format and payment route are confirmed.
Discuss the next step
We discuss whether suitable regular lessons are available within the published Teaching Block calendar. Ongoing tuition is agreed separately.

Fees
Trial lesson prices
Your trial costs the same as a regular one-to-one lesson of the agreed length. There is no registration fee.
Current prices for 30-, 45- and 60-minute lessons are shown here. Payment is arranged before the trial lesson is confirmed.

Is the trial lesson free?
No. It is a paid one-to-one first lesson charged at the published standard lesson rate.
Is there a registration fee?
No. GSofM does not charge a registration fee.
How quickly will I hear back?
GSofM aims to review new trial requests within two working days. A lesson is confirmed only when a suitable tutor, lesson time and payment arrangement are in place.
What happens after the trial?
GSofM explains whether a suitable tutor, lesson length and regular weekly time are available. Ongoing tuition is agreed separately and follows the published Teaching Block calendar.
Can adults and complete beginners request a trial?
Yes. Children, teenagers, adults, returning learners and complete beginners can request a trial and explain their goals in the form.
Do I have to continue after the trial?
No. The trial does not automatically create an ongoing weekly arrangement. Regular tuition is agreed separately after the lesson, subject to suitability and availability.
